THE EFFECT OF COOPERATIVE SCRIPT TECHNIQUE ON THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP N 3 BANJAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar dengan teknik cooperative script dan siswa yang diajar dengan teknik konvensional. Rancangan penelitian penelitian ini adalah Quasi Experimental of Posttest Only Control Group Study. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 180 siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Banjar. 60 siswa dari dua kelas diambil sebagai sampel. Mereka ditetapkan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan undian. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan aplikasi SPSS 19. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata - rata skor kelompok eksperimen adalah 85,37 sedangkan nilai rata - rata kelompok kontrol adalah 76,63. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa t-diamati melebihi nilai t-kritis (4,376> 2,048). Dengan demikian hipotesis nol ditolak, artinya ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman membacasiswa kelas VIII di SMP N 3 Banjar.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of cooperative script technique on the students’ reading comprehension. The research design of this study was Quasi Experimental of Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population of this study was 180 students of the eighth grade students of SMP N 3 Banjar. Sixty students from two classes were taken as samples. They were assigned as an experimental group and a control group through lottery. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially by using SPSS 19. The result showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 85.37 while the mean score of the control group was 76.63. The result of t-test showed that the t-observed exceeded the t-critical value (4.376 > 2.048). Thus, the null hypothesis was rejected, which means there was significant effect on the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of SMP N 3 Banjar.
