DESIGNING ENGLISH SONGS AS SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL IN TEACHING ENGLISH FOR SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN SMP NEGERI 1 KUBUTAMBAHAN IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menemukan topik yang bisa diajarkan dengan menggunakan lagu sebagai materi tambahan dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris di SMP N 1 Kubutambahan, (2) lagu apa yang akan di desain dan (3) mengetahui kualitas dari lagu bahasa Inggris yang telah dirancang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas tujuh A di SMP N I Kubutambahan. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, kuesioner guru dan siswa, ceklis, rubrik penilaian, dan catatan tambahan. Penelitian ini adalah R & D (penelitian dan pengembangan) yang mengikuti beberapa prosedur berdasarkan model Sugiyono yaitu, mengidentifikasi potensi dan masalah, pengumpulan data, merancang produk, validasi desain produk, merevisi produk desain, mencoba produk, dan merevisi produk. Dengan demikian, ada produk prototipe dari lagu bahasa Inggris di akhir penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada enam tema yang bisa diajarkan dengan menggunakan lagu yaitu Sapaan, Memperkenalkan diri dan teman-teman, Hari, Pekerjaan, Hewan, dan Keluarga. Lagu yang di desain dalam penelitian ini adalah lagu anak-anak dan terdapat sebuah buku panduan untuk masing-masing tema lagu dan latihan soal sebagai aktivitas tambahan. Untuk kualitas media, ditemukan bahwa semua lagu dikategorikan sebagai media yang sangat baik. Dengan demikian, lagu berbahasa Inggris sangat tepat untuk digunakan dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas tujuh sebagai materi tambahan.Kata Kunci : Lagu, Materi tambahan, Pengajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anak - anak.
This research aimed to (1) find the topics that could be developed songs as a supplementary material in teaching English in SMP N 1 Kubutambahan, (2) find what songs that should be designed, and (3) find out the quality of designed English songs. The subject of this research was seven grade students in 7A class in SMP N I Kubutambahan. The data of this research were obtained by using observation sheet, teacher and students’ questionnaires, checklist, rubric, and notes. This research was R&D (research and development) which followed several procedures based on Sugiyono model namely, identifying potency and problem, collecting data, designing product, validating design product, revising design product, trying-out product, and revising product. Thus, there is a prototype product of English songs in the end of this research. The result of this research shows that there were six themes that could be taught by using songs namely greeting, introducing myself and friends, days, occupation, animals, and family. Songs that should be designed was children songs and there was a guidance book for each theme of the songs and exercises as a follow up activity. For the quality of the media, it was found that the songs are categorized as an excellent product. Thus, it is proper to be used in teaching English for seventh grade students as a supplementary material.
