Abstract

Abstract

A cataract is a clouding of the natural intraocular crystalline lens that focuses the light entering the eye onto the retina. Cataract is a gradually progressive disease and is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. In 2014-2016, In 2014-2016, the prevalence of blindness in Indonesia reached 30%, with the main cause of visual impairment and blindness being cataracts. Risk factors for increasing cataract incidence include diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Both cause changes in the protein conformational structure of the lens capsule. On physical examination, the patient's ophthalmological status was found to be in the right eye with hand movement vision, cloudy lens, iris shadow (-), and fundus reflex (-), with an intraocular pressure of 17.3 mmHg. Left oculi with visual acuity 2/60, iris shadow (+), and fundus reflex (+). A random blood sugar check showed 125 mg/dl. Management can be done in the form of phacoemulsification and SICS (small incision cataract surgery) with good results at a low cost and short time.
