Effective communication strategies are essential to fostering inclusive learning and minimizing misunderstandings arising from linguistic and cultural diversity. This study aims to explore intercultural communication strategies employed by educators in multicultural educational settings and analyze their effectiveness in promoting meaningful interactions. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Participants included educators and students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify patterns and strategies used in classroom communication. The findings reveal that educators implement various strategies, such as code-switching, contextualized teaching, and the use of visual aids, to bridge language and cultural differences. Additionally, the study highlights the role of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and active listening in enhancing communication effectiveness. The results indicate that the successful application of these strategies fosters inclusive learning environments, improves student engagement, and reduces cultural barriers. The study concludes that intercultural communication strategies play a critical role in shaping effective teaching and learning in multicultural settings. These findings have significant implications for teacher training programs, emphasizing the need for intercultural competence and adaptive communication techniques to support diverse student populations.
2025-03-07T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 I Nyoman Tri Esaputrahttps://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/IJLL/article/view/93146Development Trilingual Supplementary Learning Materials to Facilitate Students’ English Language Receptive and Productive Skills in First-Grade Elementary School2025-03-06T07:41:12+00:00Kadek Andre Karisma Dewantaraandrekarisma657@gmail.com
One of the key factors contributing to the ineffectiveness of language learning in schools is the limited availability of resources, including textbooks, teaching materials, and other essential tools required for effective English language instruction. Therefore, additional learning materials are needed to supplement the deficiencies of classroom teaching resources in English language learning. This study aims to develop supplementary trilingual learning materials to facilitate students' receptive and productive English language skills in first-grade elementary school. This research follows a development approach using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire involving two experts. The research employed a quantitative descriptive analysis method. The developed prototype of the supplementary learning materials consists of six chapters with a total of 75 pages. The materials are designed to be engaging, featuring illustrations, audio for listening skills, games, and vocabulary tables in each chapter. The use of specially designed supplementary materials to enhance receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (speaking and writing) in English is expected to make a significant contribution to improving students' English proficiency.
2025-03-07T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Kadek Andre Karisma Dewantarahttps://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/IJLL/article/view/93201Contextually Oriented Pop-Up Book Media to Improve Elementary School Students' Understanding of Balinese2025-03-07T05:35:29+00:00I Gusti Lanang Agung Pratama Wigunalanangkiwill@gmail.com
Students often have difficulty in understanding language concepts if only given abstract explanations without real learning media. This study aims to develop pop-up book media based on a contextual approach to improve elementary school students' language comprehension. The development model used is ADDIE, with stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and media validity and practicality tests by experts and users. The results of the study showed that the developed pop-up book media received validation from material experts of 92%, media experts 93%, and language experts 91%. The practicality assessment by teachers obtained 90%, while the practicality test by students reached 98%. The effectiveness test with the Paired Sample t-Test showed a t-count value greater than the t-table, and a probability value of less than 0.05, which indicated a significant increase in students' language comprehension. Thus, pop-up book media based on a contextual approach is effective in improving elementary school students' language comprehension.
2025-03-07T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 I Gusti Lanang Agung Pratama Wigunahttps://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/IJLL/article/view/93182Balinese Traditional Literature as a Medium for Ethnopedagogy: Exploring Cultural Contexts to Improve Elementary Students’ Concept Understanding2025-03-07T01:35:13+00:00I Gede Wahyu Suwela Antarawahyu.suwela@undiksha.ac.id
Many elementary students struggle to comprehend abstract mathematical concepts due to a lack of connection with their real-life experiences. This study explores how Balinese traditional literature can serve as a medium for ethnomathematics to enhance students’ mathematical literacy. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved six teachers and elementary students. Data were collected through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of Balinese traditional texts. The findings indicate that integrating traditional literature into mathematics instruction enhances student engagement, deepens conceptual understanding, and develops problem-solving skills through contextual examples. These results align with previous research emphasizing the role of ethnomathematics in culturally responsive mathematics education. However, challenges such as limited resources and the need for teacher training were also identified. This study contributes to the development of more meaningful and context-based mathematical learning approaches in elementary education. Future research should focus on developing ethnomathematics-based learning resources and assessing the long-term impact of this method on students’ mathematical literacy.
2025-03-07T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 I Gede Wahyu Suwela Antarahttps://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/IJLL/article/view/93131The Dominance of Representative and Directive Speech Acts in Novels: Patterns, Functions, and Their Implications in Literary Pragmatics2025-03-06T03:55:52+00:00Komang Widianiwidiani.nikomang@undiksha.ac.idMade Gautama Jayadiningratmadegautamajayadiningrat@uhnsugriwa.ac.id
The study of illocutionary speech acts in novels is part of pragmatic research that examines the function of utterances in character communication and their role in structuring narratives. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to analyze previous research on illocutionary speech acts in novels. Data were collected from various academic sources and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that representative and directive speech acts are the most dominant types in novels. Directive speech acts, such as commands, requests, advice, and pleas, frequently appear in character interactions, while representative speech acts play a role in conveying information and shaping the narrative. Analyzing ten selected studies revealed a consistent pattern in the use of speech acts, with most research employing a qualitative approach and pragmatic discourse analysis. Some studies also highlight how social and cultural contexts influence the interpretation of speech acts in novels. These findings reinforce that illocutionary speech acts not only serve as a means of communication between characters but also function as fundamental elements in narrative dynamics, reflecting broader social realities. The implications of this study are expected to contribute to pragmatic research in literature and enrich the understanding of communication strategies in fictional works.
2025-03-07T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Ni Komang Widiani, Mr. Made Gautama Jayadiningrat
