In particularly, the news related to
education where the Ministry of Education and Culture made a circular letter regarding the rules
for Limited Face-to-face Learning to restore education. Unfortunately, this decision has pros and
cons because the standardization of patterns related to health protocols for preventing and
controlling the Covid-19 outbreak in schools is not always consistent. Considering this phenomenon,
the researcher used qualitative descriptive research with the Van Dijk approach to analyze the pros
and cons of this news through macrostructure, superstructure and microstructure. Specifically, this
study examined how ideology, domination, and power are represented in Kumparan.com. The
researcher collected data by observing and reading primary data from online news and secondary
data of several journals related to this study. The findings reveal that Kumparan.com has clearly
stated their preferences, which it comes to pro Kemdikbud Ristek, because it shows from its
ideology of nasionalism, some practices of power and domination based on the linguistic
characteristics that support the claim. The use of the linguistics chosen by the author represent that
Suharti as secretary general of the Ministry of Education and Culture has access to discourse to
control it by setting regulations. In short, Kumparan.com as an online news media has power and
dominance in Indonesia as a medium that linking between the voice of the government and the
society for social justice.
2024-06-22T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Agis Andriani, Salma Ayu Belkis https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/75073 LEVERAGING THE ACTIVITY OF WATCHING VIDEO VLOGS: ITS EFFECTS ON STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY GRADE VII 2024-02-19T01:41:37+00:00 I Dewa Ayu Dwi Partyastini ayu.dwi.partyastini@undiksha.ac.id G.A.P. Suprianti gap.suprianti@undiksha.ac.id
Previous studies have shown that English as a foreign language (henceforth, EFL) students learned English through watching videos. However, its effects on first time EFL students’ vocabulary mastery remains unclear. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the effect of watching video blogs (henceforth, vlogs) on EFL students’ vocabulary mastery. This research employed a quantitative approach. Particularly, this study employed quasi-experimental research using a posttest-only control group design. The research was conducted at a junior high school in Indonesia. The experimental group was taught using vlogs, and the control group used conventional strategies. The sample was selected using an intact group sampling technique. The total population of this study was 117 students, and the sample was 61 students. Data was collected through a post-test through a multiple-choice test given to students. The data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U Test in the SPSS 25.0 program. The Mann-Whitney U Test for independent samples shows a significant difference in students' vocabulary understanding between the experimental and control classes where the significancy value was smaller than 0.05. The learning outcomes of the experimental class were higher than the control class (Mexp=62.34; Mcon=47.24). Based on these results, there is a significant influence on EFL student's vocabulary mastery.
2024-06-22T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 I Dewa Ayu Dwi Partyastini, G.A.P. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with the students' beginner level students as the subject. Data collection techniques use observation and digital recorders. Data analysis uses a mixing method (coding) from the theory of Creswell and Creswell (2017) and interactive data analysis by Miles and Huberman (1994). The research findings revealed that the type of intra-sentential code-switching is most actively used. Meanwhile, intra-sentential is rarely used, and beginner students do not use tag-switching at all. It was also found that beginner students were more active in producing code-switching using Indonesian as the matrix language instead of English. This study provides insights into the patterns and preferences of code-switching among beginner learners, contributing to the understanding of language use in informal educational settings.
2024-07-10T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Ida Ayu Kadek Shevany Natasya Dewi, Ni Luh Putu Sri Adnyani, Rima Andriani Sari https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/81854 THE NEEDS ANALYSIS OF FIFTH GRADE ENGLISH TEACHERS OF DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING MATERIALS IN EMANCIPATED CURRICULUM 2024-07-08T01:29:42+00:00 Anak Agung Dilla Kusuma Dewi anak.agung.dilla@undiksha.ac.id Ni Wayan Surya Mahayanti surya.mahayanti@undiksha.ac.id Luh Gd Rahayu Budiarta rahayu.budiarta@undiksha.ac.id
The purpose of this study was to analyze teachers’ needs for differentiated materials for learning English in the Emancipated Curriculum. This research used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach by Miles and Huberman (2014) model. There were four stages to carrying out the analysis, including (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display, and (4) conclusions. The object of this research was the fifth-grade teachers’ needs for differentiated materials. Meanwhile, the subjects of this study were two English teachers in two driving schools in Denpasar. The research instruments used were an observation sheet and an interview guide. Results of this study showed that teachers in schools A and B need differentiated materials, including complete material explanation, more exercises, varied learning models, and contents based on visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic learning styles. It can be concluded that both teachers need differentiated materials to support English learning in this Emancipated Curriculum.
2024-07-10T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Dilla Kusuma Dewi Anak Agung, Surya Mahayanti Ni Wayan, Rahayu Budiarta Luh Gd https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/82123 LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES USED BY ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDY PROGRAM STUDENTS 2024-07-08T01:21:59+00:00 Indah Loviani indah.loviani@undiksha.ac.id Rima Andriani Sari rima.andriani@undiksha.ac.id Ni Putu Era Marsakawati era.marsakawati@undiksha.ac.id
This study was conducted with the aim to investigate the Language Learning Strategies (LLS) used by students in learning English and to describe the factors that influence students' choice of strategies.
