https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/74656

The Covid-19 outbreak, which has paralyzed Indonesia for the past two years, prompted online
news companies to provide greater information convenience. In particularly, the news related to
education where the Ministry of Education and Culture made a circular letter regarding the rules
for Limited Face-to-face Learning to restore education. Unfortunately, this decision has pros and
cons because the standardization of patterns related to health protocols for preventing and
controlling the Covid-19 outbreak in schools is not always consistent. Considering this phenomenon,
the researcher used qualitative descriptive research with the Van Dijk approach to analyze the pros
and cons of this news through macrostructure, superstructure and microstructure. Specifically, this
study examined how ideology, domination, and power are represented in Kumparan.com. The
researcher collected data by observing and reading primary data from online news and secondary
data of several journals related to this study. The findings reveal that Kumparan.com has clearly
stated their preferences, which it comes to pro Kemdikbud Ristek, because it shows from its
ideology of nasionalism, some practices of power and domination based on the linguistic
characteristics that support the claim. The use of the linguistics chosen by the author represent that
Suharti as secretary general of the Ministry of Education and Culture has access to discourse to
control it by setting regulations. In short, Kumparan.com as an online news media has power and
dominance in Indonesia as a medium that linking between the voice of the government and the
society for social justice.
Agis Andriani, Salma Ayu Belkis

https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/75073

Previous studies have shown that English as a foreign language (henceforth, EFL) students learned English through watching videos. However, its effects on first time EFL students’ vocabulary mastery remains unclear. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the effect of watching video blogs (henceforth, vlogs) on EFL students’ vocabulary mastery. This research employed a quantitative approach. Particularly, this study employed quasi-experimental research using a posttest-only control group design. The research was conducted at a junior high school in Indonesia. The experimental group was taught using vlogs, and the control group used conventional strategies. The sample was selected using an intact group sampling technique. The total population of this study was 117 students, and the sample was 61 students. Data was collected through a post-test through a multiple-choice test given to students. The data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U Test in the SPSS 25.0 program. The Mann-Whitney U Test for independent samples shows a significant difference in students' vocabulary understanding between the experimental and control classes where the significancy value was smaller than 0.05. The learning outcomes of the experimental class were higher than the control class (Mexp=62.34; Mcon=47.24). Based on these results, there is a significant influence on EFL student's vocabulary mastery.
I Dewa Ayu Dwi Partyastini, G.A.P. Suprianti

https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/81545

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of code-switching produced by beginner-level students at Slukat Foundation, focusing on the types of code-switching by using Hoffman's (1991) theory and how code-switching occurs by using Matrix Language Frame (MLF) by Myers-Scotton (2006). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with the students' beginner level students as the subject. Data collection techniques use observation and digital recorders. Data analysis uses a mixing method (coding) from the theory of Creswell and Creswell (2017) and interactive data analysis by Miles and Huberman (1994). The research findings revealed that the type of intra-sentential code-switching is most actively used. Meanwhile, intra-sentential is rarely used, and beginner students do not use tag-switching at all. It was also found that beginner students were more active in producing code-switching using Indonesian as the matrix language instead of English. This study provides insights into the patterns and preferences of code-switching among beginner learners, contributing to the understanding of language use in informal educational settings.
Ida Ayu Kadek Shevany Natasya Dewi, Ni Luh Putu Sri Adnyani, Rima Andriani Sari

https://ejournal.undiksha.ac.id/index.php/JJBI/article/view/82143

This study examines the effects of the Let’s Read application on the English literacy of seventh-grade students, particularly young learners at SMPN 1 Petang. The research employs statistical analysis to compare students' literacy skills in the experimental group, who use the Let’s Read application, with those in the control group, who engage in conventional learning methods. The sample consists of 31 seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Petang in Badung. The objective is to determine whether the use of the Let’s Read application has a significant impact on their English literacy skills. The results indicate a substantial score difference between the experimental and control groups. An Independent Sample t-test was used to analyze the data, revealing that the one-sided and two-sided p-values were 0.1, less than the standard alpha level (α = 0.05). Therefore, it demonstrates that the Let’s Read application significantly affects the English literacy skills of students at SMPN 1 Petang in Badung.
Ni Nyoman Sari Pratiwi, Ni Nyoman Padmadewi, Ni Kadek Sintya Dewi
