Sintesis Metil Ester Sulfonat Berbasis Minyak Biji Kelor (Moringa Oliofera L.) pada Variasi Waktu dan Suhu Sulfonasi

Penggunaan surfaktan sintetis berbasis petrokimia memiliki efek negatif pada kesehatan manusia dan lingkungan karena bersifat korosif dan beracun, menyebabkan pemanasan global, dan kelangkaan sumber daya fosil. Metil ester sulfonat (MES) merupakan salah satu jenis surfaktan anionik yang banyak diaplikasikan dalam berbagai industri. Bahan baku pembuatan surfaktan berasal dari minyak bumi yang tidak dapat diperbaharui dan tidak ramah lingkungan, sehingga diperlukan bahan baku alternatif lain yaitu dari minyak biji kelor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis MES dari minyak biji kelor (Moringa oliofera L.) pada variasi suhu (70, 80, dan 90) 0C dan waktu reaksi (3, 4 dan 5) jam, serta mengkarakterisasi MES menggunakan spektrofotometer FTIR pada kondisi optimum. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental laboratorium. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa MES dapat sintesis dari minyak biji kelor pada kondisi optimum suhu 80 0C dan waktu reaksi 4 jam. Produk MES berwarna putih kekuningan, pH 7 dan yield 66,72 %. Karakterisasi FTIR menunjukkan pita serapan S=O sulfonat yang menandakan terbentuknya produk MES.
