Abstract

Kenaikan harga saham yang terlalu tinggi, akan menyebabkan permintaan terhadap pembelian saham tersebut mengalami penurunan dan pada akhirnya dapat menyebabkan harga saham perusahaan tidak fluktuatif lagi. Untuk menghindari munculnya kondisi tersebut, maka salah satu langkah yang diambil oleh perusahaan adalah melalui stock split yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan likuiditas saham. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan volatilitas harga saham, volume perdagangan saham, dan return saham sebelum dan setelah melakukan stock split. Sampel penelitian ini dilakukan pada 35 perusahaan yang terdaftar di BEI yang melakukan pemecahan saham pada tahun 2010-2013. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data sekunder yang bersumber dari data yang di publikasikan perusahaan di website Bursa Efek Indonesia. Periode jendela (event window) yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 10 hari yang terdiri atas 5 hari sebelum stock split dan 5 hari setelah stock split. Dalam penentuan sampel penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis uji paired sample t-test. Analisis data menggunakan program SPSS versi 19.0 hasil pengujian ini adalah tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara volatilitas harga saham, volume perdagangan saham, dan return saham sebelum dan sesudah melakukan stock split.

The dramatic rise in the prices of shares causes the demand for the purchase of shares to go down and finally may cause the prices of shares of companies not to fluctuate any longer. One of the steps taken by the companies is undertaking what is referred to as stock split to avoid such a condition from appearing. In this way, it is hoped that the liquidity of shares may improve. This present study was intended to identify whether before and after undertaking what is referred to as stock split the vitality of shares, the volume of share trading, and the return of shares would be significantly affected. The sample of the study included 35 companies registered at BEI (Indonesia’s Stock Exchange) which split shares during 2010-2013. The secondary data, which were taken from what was published by the companies through the website of BEI, were used in the present study. The event window used in this present study were 10 days consisting of 5 days prior to and 5 days after the stock split. The sample of the study was determined using purposive sampling technique. The paired sample t-test was used and the data were analyzed using SPSS program version 19.0. The result showed that there was no significant difference among the volatility of prices of shares, the volume of share trading, and the return of shares prior to and after the stock split.
