Tindak Pemantauan dan Kebebasan Berpendapat Aktivis Demokrasi

Abstrak
Tulisan ini menjabarkan persepsi dan respon sejumlah aktivis demokrasi terhadap dugaan tindak pemantauan yang menimpa mereka, serta bagaimana dampaknya. Peneliti melakukan wawancara mendalam, dan telaah atas peristiwa pemantauan, khususnya peretasan, terhadap dua informan kunci; seorang data scientist, dan seorang epidemolog. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi keduanya berbeda, juga dalam memberikan respon. Dampak tindak pemantauan tersebut pun berbeda pada keduanya. Bagi sang data scientist, tindak pemantauan yang diikuti dengan serangan fisik telah berhasil mengubah dirinya menjadi lebih tenang, reflektif dan bahkan menghapus beberapa unggahan yang dianggap kritis oleh sejumlah oknum otoritas. Selanjutnya ia lebih banyak menggunakan emoticon dalam berekspresi. Sementara bagi si epidemolog, tindak pemantauan dipersepsi dan direspon sebagai sesuatu yang tidak memerlukan perhatian, karena ia ingin titik fokus permasalahan tidak teralihkan dari isu yang tengah dikritisi. Lebih lanjut ia juga menyatakan untuk terus bersuara kritis di media sosial, melalui bidang kajian keilmuannya.
