High school students still need help with writing descriptive texts. The purpose of this research is to analyze the mistakes that students most often make in writing descriptive texts and the difficulties students face in writing descriptive texts. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The sample for this research consisted of 36 tenth-grade students from a state high school and was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The two instruments used in this research were writing tests and interviews. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The results showed that students made mistakes in the content aspect 0.1%, organization 0.1%, vocabulary 8.3%, language use 23.5%, and mechanics 68%. The analysis results show that the most significant number of errors is in the mechanical aspect, with a total of 1085 errors. Students need some help in writing descriptive text. The challenges faced by students in writing explanatory texts are in the elements of vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The causes of students' difficulties are a lack of vocabulary, grammar skills, and hasty writing. To overcome this problem, students can learn and practice English through online platforms such as Google Translate and YouTube. Students must also increase their focus on writing practice and always proofread their writing.
