PENINGKATAN PEMAHAMAN KONSEP MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS VIIIC SMP NEGERI 1 KUBU MELALUI PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN SQ4R

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa kelas VIII C SMP Negeri Kubu serta tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran SQ4R. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang melibatkan subjek penelitian sebanyak 33 siswa. Penelitian ini berlangsung dalam 3 siklus, dimana setiap siklusnya terdiri dari tahap perencanaan, tahap pelaksanaan, observasi dan evaluasi, serta tahap terakhir adalah tahap refleksi. Data pemahaman konsep matematika siswa diperoleh melalui tes pemahaman konsep yang berupa soal uraian. Sedangkan untuk tanggapan siswa diperoleh melalui pemberian angket. Data yang sudah dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep matematika siswa mengalami peningkatan dari siklus I, siklus II dan siklus III berturut-turut sebesar 63,3 menjadi 72,9 dan 74,3. Peningkatan rata-rata nilai pemahaman konsep ini tidak terlepas dari upaya-upaya perbaikan yang dilakukan setiap siklusnya. Dengan penerapan model pembelajaran SQ4R, siswa dilatih untuk lebih memahami konsep matematika melalui pengerjaan LKS yang berisikan konsep maupun materi pembelajaran serta persoalan-persoalan yang nantinya dikerjakan secara diskusi kelompok. Siswa menjadi terbiasa untuk mampu mengajukan pertanyaan, memberikan argumen maupun menyampaikan pendapat dengan kata-katanya sendiri serta siswa dibimbing untuk mampu menyebutkan contoh dari sebuah konsep matematika. Siswa mampu menggali pengentahuannya dalam menemukan konsep dan juga mengaplikasikan konsep tersebut untuk menyelesaikan suatu permasalahan yang diberikan. Tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran SQ4R ini dalam pembelajaran matematika tergolong positif dengan rata-rata skor 71,7.

The study purposed to know students’ understanding of mathematical concept in VIII grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kubu and students’ responses to the application of the SQ4R learning model. The research conducted was classroom action research involving 33 research subjects. This research conducted in 3 cycles, where each cycle consisted of the planning, the implementation, observation and evaluation, and the last was the reflection. The data of students' understanding of mathematical concepts were obtained through tests in the form of problem descriptions. Meanwhile the data of students' responses were obtained through the provision of questionnaires. The data was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that students' understanding of mathematical concepts increased from cycle I, cycle II and cycle III respectively by 63.3 to 72.9 and 74.3. The increasing in the average value of understanding the concept was inseparable from the improvement efforts made every cycle. By applying the SQ4R learning model, students were trained to understand well about mathematical concepts through the work of LKS which contained concepts and learning materials as well as problems that would discuss in group discussions later. The students become accustomed to being able to ask questions, give arguments and express opinions in their own words and students were guided to be able to mention examples of a mathematical concept. The students are able to obtain their knowledge in finding the concepts and also applying it to solve a given problem. Student responses to the application of the SQ4R learning model in mathematics learning were classified as positive with an average score of 71.7.
