Abstract

Ectoparasites infesting domestic cats (Felis catus Linn.) cause health problems in cats and even act as direct causes or vectors of zoonosis. The purpose of this study was to study the types, intensity of attacks and prevalence of ectoparasite fleas, ticks and lice on F. catus in Saketi sub-district, Pandeglang district. Sorting, collection of slide preparations, identification to determine the value and category of attack intensity and prevalence of 560 ectoparasites taken by purposive sampling from 28 F. catus individuals in 14 villages. The results of the study found 3 types of ectoparasites including Felicola subrostratus (fleas), Ctenocephalides felis (fleas) and Ixodes ricinus (ticks). C. felis fleas have the highest attack intensity and prevalence, respectively 17.1 individuals/host and 100%. C. felis infestation has the potential to cause zoonosis.
