FOCUS

Indonesian Gender and Society Journal focuses on advancing scholarly research in the fields of gender studies and social transformation, providing a platform for the dissemination of high-quality studies that critically explore the intersection of gender, identity, power, and social structures. The journal welcomes original empirical and theoretical research that draws from various disciplines such as sociology, education, politics, culture, law, and health to better understand how gender shapes and is shaped by societal norms and institutions.

The journal emphasizes contributions that interrogate inequalities, promote inclusivity, and advocate for gender justice, especially within the Indonesian context while remaining open to global perspectives. By highlighting both academic rigor and social relevance, this journal aims to bridge the gap between research and activism, encouraging reflective discourse and transformative practices that address gender-based issues in diverse communities and contexts.


 

SCOPE

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following thematic areas:


Gender and Education

This area explores how gender influences educational experiences, access, and outcomes across all levels of education. Research may examine gender bias in curricula, classroom interaction, school leadership, and the role of education in empowering marginalized gender groups. It also includes studies on gender-responsive pedagogy, educational policy, and inclusive practices.


Gender, Power, and Social Institutions

This theme investigates the ways in which gender intersects with social, political, and economic institutions. Topics may include gender and the family, labor and employment, politics and governance, legal systems, religion, and media. The scope includes analyses of how institutional structures reproduce or resist gender norms, roles, and inequalities.


Sexuality, Identity, and Intersectionality

Research under this scope focuses on the complex interplay of gender, sexual orientation, race, class, religion, disability, and other social identities. The journal welcomes studies that explore LGBTQ+ experiences, non-normative identities, and the effects of intersecting oppressions. Intersectional analysis is central to understanding nuanced experiences and systemic inequalities.


Gender-Based Violence and Human Rights

This area addresses the prevalence, causes, impacts, and prevention of gender-based violence in various settings, including domestic, institutional, and digital spaces. It includes legal, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives, and examines policy responses and survivor-centered approaches that promote justice and healing.


Feminist Theories and Movements

This theme includes critical discussions of feminist thought, activism, and resistance within historical and contemporary contexts. Research may explore grassroots movements, transnational feminism, feminist epistemology, and the evolving discourse on gender justice. Comparative studies of feminist movements in Indonesia and beyond are especially encouraged.


Gender, Health, and Well-being

This area examines how gender influences physical and mental health outcomes, access to healthcare, reproductive rights, and well-being. It also includes research on health policy, caregiving, sexual and reproductive health education, and gender-sensitive health interventions in communities.


Gender in Media, Culture, and Technology

This scope investigates representations of gender in cultural productions, media narratives, and digital platforms. Topics may include gender stereotypes, body politics, feminist media critique, gendered digital activism, and the role of technology in shaping identity and discourse.


Through these themes, Indonesian Gender and Society Journal seeks to foster interdisciplinary scholarship that contributes to inclusive, equitable, and transformative social change.
