PENERAPAN TEKNIK TRI - FOKUS STEVE SNYDER PADA PENINGKATAN KECEPATAN EFEKTIF MEMBACA (KEM) MATA PELAJARAN BAHASA INDONESIA SISWA KELAS 4 SD NEGERI 2 RENDANG TAHUN PELAJARAN 2012/2013

Abstract

Abstrak Membaca adalah salah satu cara terbaik untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa. Kemampuan membaca bisa dilihat dengan cara mengukur Kecepatan Efektif Membaca (KEM) siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan Kecepatan Efektif Membaca (KEM) siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 2 Rendang dalam pembelajaran membaca cepat dengan teknik Tri-Fokus Steve Snyder. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 2 Rendang, semester II tahun pelajaran 2012/2013 yang berjumlah 38 siswa. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri atas tiga pertemuan yang meliputi tahap perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan tes dan nontes. Data diperoleh melalui tes, observasi, dan dokumentasi foto. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data tes, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa penggunaan teknik Tri-Fokus Steve Snyder dalam pembelajaran membaca cepat dapat meningkatkan KEM siswa. Dari hasil tes diketahui bahwa skor rata-rata KEM pratindakan sebesar 78,42 kpm dan berkategori rendah. Pada siklus I, skor rata-rata KEM menjadi 101,68 kpm atau berkategori sedang dan siklus II menjadi 120,95 kpm atau berkategori tinggi. Hal ini menunjukkan peningkatan skor rata-rata KEM dari pratindakan sampai siklus I sebesar 23,26 kpm dan peningkatan skor rata-rata KEM siklus I ke siklus II sebesar 19,27 kpm. Jika diakumulasikan, peningkatan skor rata-rata KEM dari pratindakan sampai siklus II sebesar 42,53 kpm. Penerapan teknik Tri-Fokus Steve Snyder juga mampu memberikan motivasi dan kesenangan dalam proses pembelajaran membaca cepat. Siswa terlihat lebih aktif dan lebih bersemangat dalam mengikuti proses pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan 6 siswa pada siklus I sebanyak 4 orang (nilai KEM tinggi dan sedang) atau 66,67% mengaku sangat senang dengan teknik yang diterapkan. Sementara itu, terdapat 2 siswa (dengan KEM rendah) atau 33,33 % mengaku cukup senang. Hasil wawancara dengan siswa pada siklus II yaitu 25 siswa (65,79%) menyatakan sangat senang, 10 siswa (26,32%) menyatakan senang, dan 3 siswa (7,89%) menyatakan cukup senang. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik Tri-Fokus Steve Snyder dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca cepat siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 2 Rendang.

Abstract Reading is one of the best ways to broaden the students’ knowledge. Students’ reading capability is able to be noted by measuring their effectiveness of accelerated reading. This study was aimed at investigating the improvement of the accelerated reading effectiveness on Bahasa Indonesia subject of the fourth grade elementary students of SD Negeri 2 Rendang by the implementation of Tri-Focus Steve Snyder Technique. Action-based research was carried out in which the subjects were the second semester students of the fourth grade elementary of SD Negeri 2 Rendang in the academic year 2013/2014 consisting of 38 students. This study was conducted in two cycles. There were three class sessions in each cycle covering some stages such as; preparation, action, observation and reflection. The data was collected from test result, observation, interview and pictures documentation. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The students’ accelerated reading effectiveness on pre-test was 78,42 kpm categorized as low level. The students’ accelerated reading effectiveness on post-test I was 101,68 kpm categorized as average level. The students’ accelerated reading effectiveness on post-test II was 120,95 kpm categorized as high level. Thus, there was improvement of students’ accelerated reading effectiveness on post test I that was about 23,26 kpm, and on post test II that was about 19,27 kpm. Totally, there was 42,53 kpm of improvement from pre-test to post-test II. Moreover, the technique was also able to improve the students’ motivation and interest on having accelerated reading class. The students were more active and motivated in having the class. Regarding to the result of the interview on the first cycle, there were 4 students (56,67%)categorized as high and average level out of 6 students admitting that they were very happy with the implementation of the technique. The other 2 students (33,33%) confessed that they were happy enough. Meanwhile, out of 38 students being interviewed on the second cycle, there were 25 students (65,79%) admitting that they were very happy with the implementation of the technique. There were 10 students (26,32%) confessing that they were happy and 3 students (7,89%) saying that they were happy enough. In accordance to the analysis above, it can be concluded that the application of Tri-Focus Steve Snyder technique was able to improve the accelerated reading effectiveness of the fourth grade elementary students of SD Negeri 2 rendang.
