THE USE OF JARGONS UTTERED BY FOOD AND BEVERAGE WORKERS AT PURI BAGUS LOVINA HOTEL

Dalam penelitian ini, penggunaan jargon yang diucapkan oleh para pegawai F&B servis di Puri Bagus Lovina Hotel diteliti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk dari jargon-jargon, arti dari jargon-jargon, dan fungsi dari jargon-jargon yang digunakan oleh pegawai tersebut. Sebuah desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penyelidikan ini adalah pendekatan studi kasus. Tambahannya, teknik observasi, teknik rekaman, teknik transfer, dan teknik interview digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini. Hasil dari investigasi ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 104 jargon, yang termasuk: 6 singkatan, 1 akronim, 54 kata, dan 43 frase. Berhubungan dengan arti dari jargon-jargon yang digunakan, mereka mengenai arti-arti konotatif dari jargon-jargon yang diterapkan oleh para pegawai. Arti-arti tersebut terhubung dengan konteks-konteks tertentu dari jargon-jargon yang digunakan. Dalam kaitannya dengan fungsi dari jargon-jargon yang dipakai, ditemukan bahwa ada dua fungsi utama dari jargon-jargon tersebut, yaitu: ‘untuk berkomunikasi dengan efisien’ dan ‘untuk meningkatkan solidaritas internal group’. Jargon-jargon tersebut dikategorikan secara fungsional sebagai berikut; 7 jargon termasuk dalam fungsi jargon-jargon yang digunakan pertama, dan 97 jargon termasuk ke fungsi jargon-jargon yang digunakan kedua.Kata Kunci : jargon, pegawai F&B servis, Hotel Puri Bagus Lovina
In this study, the use of jargons uttered by Food and Beverage (F&B) workers at Puri Bagus Lovina Hotel was investigated. The study aimed at investigating the forms of jargons, the meanings of jargons, and the functions of jargons applied by the F&B workers. The research design used in this investigation was case study approach. In addition, observation technique, recording technique, transferring technique, and interview technique were conducted to collect the data of this study. The result of this investigation shows that there were 104 jargons, which included: 6 abbreviations, 1 acronym, 54 words, and 43 phrases. In connection with the meanings of jargons used, they concerned the connotative meanings of jargons applied by the workers. The meanings were related to particular contexts of jargons implemented. In relation to the functions of jargons used, it was found that there were two main functions of jargons being used, namely: ‘to conduct an efficient communication’ and ‘to enhance in-group solidarity’. The jargons used by the workers were functionally categorized as follows; 7 jargons belonged to the first function of jargons used, and 97 jargons were in line with the second function of jargons used.
