Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk, makna, dan fungsi bahasa dari bahasa Inggris pidgin yang diucapkan oleh polisi pariwisata ketika berkomunikasi dengan turis berbahasa Inggris Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kawasan wisata Lovina dan tiga polisi pariwisata dipilih sebagai subyek penelitian ini berdasarakan beberapa kriteria. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dan rancangan yang digunakan adalah studi kasus. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa penyimpangan terhadap bentuk-bentuk bahasa Inggris pidgin yang diucapkan oleh polisi pariwisata dalam hal tata bahasa, pengucapan, sintaksis, dan kosakata. Di samping itu, hasil lain dari analisis data menunjukkan bahwa makna dari bahasa Inggris pidgin yang diucapkan oleh polisi pariwisata di kawasan wisata Lovina ambigu karena kesalahan penggunaan kosa kata oleh polisi pariwisata. Sementara itu, ada beberapa fungsi bahasa yang digunakan oleh polisi pariwisata ketika berinteraksi dengan turis berbahasa Inggris seperti memberikan salam, menanyakan informasi, menanyakan pendapat, menyatakan pujian, memberikan informasi, arah, pendapat, menawarkan bantuan, memberikan pujian, salam perpisahan, dan mengucapkan terimakasih.

This study aimed at analyzing the forms, meanings, and language functions of pidgin English uttered by tourism police when communicating to English-speaking tourists. This study was conducted at Lovina tourism area and three tourism police were chosen as the subjects of this study based on a set of criteria. This study employed descriptive qualitative approach and the design used was case study method. The results of the data analysis showed that there were several deviations in the forms of pidgin English uttered by the tourism police in terms of grammar, pronunciation, syntax, and vocabulary. On the other hand, another result of the data analysis indicated that the meaning of pidgin English uttered by the tourism police at Lovina tourism area was ambiguous because of the use of incorrect vocabulary by the tourism police. Meanwhile, there were several language functions used by the tourism police when interacting with the English-speaking tourists namely greeting, asking information, asking opinion, giving information, giving direction, giving opinion, offering a favor, praising, leave-taking, and thanking.
