AN ANALYSIS OF COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES USED IN NGIDIH WEDDING CEREMONY IN LOKAPAKSA VILLAGE

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan procedure dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa, (2) menyelidiki jenis komunikasi strategi yang digunakan oleh perwakilan dari penganten laki-laki, perwakilan dari penganten wanita dan Prajuru dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa (3) menemukan alasan dari prajuru tentang tradisi upacara pernikahan di Desa Lokapaksa. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat orang yang terlibat dalam proses pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa. Ada tiga prosedur upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa yaitu: Mesadok bertemu orang tua pengantin laki-laki dan orang tua mempelai wanita di rumah pengantin wanita, Memadik / Ngidih melamar pengantin wanita kerumah pengantin pria dan Melaku adalah prosedur terakhir upacara pernikahan Ngidih dan ada tiga langkah yaitu: pebiayakala, natab, dan mepamit. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada enam jenis strategi komunikas yaitu, approximation, circumlocution,language switching,appeal for assistance, use of nonlingustic and use of fillers.

This study aimed at (1) describing the procedures in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; (2) investigating the types of communication strategies used by groom’s delegation, bride’s delegation, the head of village and prajuru in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; and (3) finding tradition of wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. This study was designed in the form of qualitative research. The subjects of this study were ten people who were involved Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. there were three procedures of Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village which were included: Mesadok the meeting of the groom’s parents and the bride’s parents at the bride’s house, Memadik/Ngidih propose the bride to the groom’s house and Melaku was the last procedure of Ngidih wedding ceremony and there were three steps namely: pebiayakala, natab, and mepamit. The results of the analysis show that there were six types of communication strategies namely, approximation, circumlocution, language switching, appeal for assistance, use of nonlinguistic, and use of fillers.
