THE EFFECT OF MOVIE CLIPS ON STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 1 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengivestigasi apakah ada perbedaan atau tidak terhadap prestasi belajar menulis deskriptif teks para siswa di kelas tujuh dengan menggunakan Movie Clips. Desain yang digunakan adalah Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah para siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi. One intact group cluster random sampling technique digunakan untuk mendapatkan sampel. Terdapat dua kelompok sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelompok eksperimen yang diajarkan menggunakan Movie Clips dan kelompok Kontrol yang tidak diajarkan menggunakan Movie Clips. Data dikumpulkan melalui post-test yang dimana dilaksanakan setelah kedua kelompok mendapatkan perlakuan berbeda sebanyak sembilan pertemuan. Setelah itu, data dianalisis menggunakan descriptive statistical analysis dan inferential analysis. Hasil dari descriptive statistical analysis menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen memperoleh hasil yang lebih baik dalam menulis dimana nilai rata-rata kelompok eksperimen adalah 79,26 sedangkan nilai kelompok kontrol adalah 76,02. Selanjutnya, berdasarkan pengujian hypothesis dalam inferential analysis, didapatkan nilai t hitung = 2.032 (tobs) lebih tinggi daripada nilai t tabel dengan nilai t tabel yaitu 1.996 (tcv) dengan standard alpha level (α = .05). Hal tersebut berarti hypothesis awal ditolak demi alternative hypothesis. Oleh karena itu, bisa dipastikan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan terhadapt prestas belajar para siswa di kelas tujuh dalam menulis deskriptif teks berbantuan Movie Clips di SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi di tahun ajaran 2017/2018.

This study was aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant effect on the seventh grade students’ descriptive writing achievement by using Movie Clips. The Post-test Only Control Group Design was used as the research design. The population for this study was seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi. One intact group cluster random sampling technique was used in selecting the sample for the study. There were two groups of sample for this study, namely experimental group which was taught by using Movie Clips and control group which was not taught by using Movie Clips. The data for this study were gathered through the post-test which conducted after those two groups were given different treatment for nine meetings. After that, the research data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The result of descriptive statistical analysis showed that the experimental group had better performance in writing where the experimental group’s mean score was 79.26 while the control group’s mean score was 76.02. Furthermore, based on the hypothesis testing in inferential statistical analysis, it was found that the t observed of 2.032 (tobs) was higher than the t critical value of 1.996 (tcv) at standard alpha level (α = .05). It means the null hypothesis was rejected in favor of the alternative hypothesis. Therefore, it could be confirmed that there was a significant effect on students’ descriptive writing achievement by using Movie Clips in seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi in Academic Year 2017/2018.
