THE PHONOLOGICAL SYTEM OF BALINESE LANGUAGE OF KUTUH DIALECT: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY

Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif yang menggambarkan sistem fonologi Kutuh dialek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jumlah fonem dan distribusinya. Penelitian ini hanya berfokus pada fonem segmental dalam Kutuh Dialek. Ada tiga informan yang dipilih berdasarkan satu set kriteria. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga daftar kosakata, yaitu: Swadesh, Nothofer, dan Holle. Tiga teknik digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data, yaitu observasi, rekaman, dan teknik wawancara (mendengarkan dan mencatat). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kutuh dialek memiliki 50 fonem dan tidak semua fonem memiliki distribusi lengkap (awal, tengah, posisi akhir). Fonem dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi: enam vokal; ʌ /, / i /, u /, / e /, / o /, / ə /, sebelas diftong; / ʌi /, / iʌ /, / ʌu /, / uʌ /, /uə /, / ʌə /, / ʌɛ /, / ʌɔ /, / ui /, / iu /, / iə /, lima geminate vokal; / ʌʌ /, / ʊʊ /, / ɔɔ /, / ɪɪ /, / əə /, sembilan belas konsonan; / p /, / b /, / t /, / m /, / d /, / g /, / h /, / c /, / r /, / s /, / n /, / y /, / j /, / w /, / ʔ /, / k /, / l /, / ŋ /, / ñ /, dan sembilan konsonan cluster; / kr /, / pr /, / br /, bl /, / kl /, / tl /, / ml /, / sl / dan / pl /.Kata Kunci : kualitatif, fonem, sistem fonologis, dialek
This study was designed in form of descriptive qualitative that described Kutuh Balinese phonological system. This study aimed at describing the number of phonemes and their distributions. This study focused only on the segmental phonemes in Kutuh Dialect (KD). There were three informants chosen based on a set of criteria. The data were collected based on three word lists, namely: Swadesh’, Nothofer’s, and Holle’s. Three techniques were used to collect the data, namely observation, recording, and interview technique (listening and note-taking). As the result of this study, it shows that Kutuh Dialect has 50 phonemes and not all of phonemes have complete distribution(initial, middle, final position). The phonemes could be classified into: six vowels; ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/, /ə/, eleven diphthongs; /ʌi/, /iʌ/, /ʌu/, /uʌ/, /uə/, /ʌə/, /ʌɛ/, /ʌɔ/, /ui/, /iu/,/iə/, five geminate vowels; /ʌʌ/, /ʊʊ/, /ɔɔ/, /ɪɪ/, /əə/, nineteen consonants; /p/,/b/, /t/, /m/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /c/, /r/, /s/, /n/ ,/y/, /j/, /w/, /ʔ/, /k/, /l/, /ŋ/, /ñ/, and nine consonant clusters; /kr/, /pr/, /br/, /bl/, /kl/, /tl/, /ml/, /sl/ and /pl/.
