HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS PERCEPTION ON PERCEIVED OF EASE OF USE OF MOBILE ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING (MALL)

Perkembangan teknologi di abad 21 telah membawa banyak perubahan untuk pendidikan. Salah satu perubahannya adalah penggunaan perangkat mobile sebagai sarana yang efektif dan penting dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris. Banyak penelitian tentang mobile assisted language learning (MALL) pada konteks yang berbeda telah dilakukan yang menunjukkan banyak manfaat dari penggunaan MALL untuk pengajaran bahasa inggris. Tetapi, hanya sedikit penelitian terhadap MALL dilakukan di perguruan tinggi di Indonesia, khususnya di Bali. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa terhadap kemudahan penggunaan MALL di perguruan tinggi. Metode campuran sekuensial eksplanatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Kuisioner survei yang diadaptasi dari Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data secara kuantitatif dan wawancara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data secara kualitatif. 163 mahasiswa dari program studi pendidikan bahasa inggris dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel untuk penelitian ini. Sesi wawancara melibatkan 10 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara acak dari seluruh sampel. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa mereka memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap penggunaan MALL di dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris. Mereka percaya bahwa MALL sangat mudah digunakan yang membawa banyak manfaat bagi mereka. Hasil-hasil tersebut memiliki implikasi kepada perancang kurikulum dan dosen untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan otonomi di luar konteks ruang kelas.Kata Kunci : MALL, Perangkat seluler, Persepsi, TAM.
The development of technology in 21st century has brought many changes to education. One of the changes is the use of mobile devices as effective and significant aids to English language learning. Many studies about mobile assisted language learning (MALL) in different contexts have been conducted that indicate the advantages of MALL for English Language Learning. However, there are still few studies on MALL conducted in higher education in Indonesia, especially in Bali. Therefore, this research was aimed to investigate students’ perception on the perceived of ease of use of MALL in higher education. Explanatory sequential mixed method was used to analyze the data. Survey questionnaire adapted from Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to collect data quantitatively and interview guide were used to collect the data qualitatively. 163 English Language Education students were chosen randomly as the sample for this study. The interview involved 10 students who were selected randomly from the sample. The results show that the participants had positive perceptions toward the ease of use of MALL in English language learning. They believed that MALL is very easy to use that brings many advantages form them. These results have implication for the curriculum designers and lecturers to develop an interactive and autonomous learning beyond the classroom context.
