The current study aimed at investigating whether or not the use of scripted songs as teaching strategy had significant effect toward the students’ English competence. This study was an experimental research which used Post-Test Only Control Group Design. There were two groups: experimental and control group, in this study. The experimental group was taught by using scripted songs, and the control group was taught by using conventional teaching strategy. The population of this study was all the fourth grade students of SD Negeri 1, 2, 5 Banyuasri, Buleleng-Bali in the academic year 2013/2014. The samples of this study were class IV A as the experimental group and class IV B as the control group which were determined by using Cluster Random Sampling. The data of this study were obtained from the result of posttest after the treatments had been conducted. The result of descriptive statistic analysis shows that the mean score obtained by the experimental group was 79.76 and the mean score obtained by the control group was 71.68. This indicates that the experimental group achieved better than the control group. Meanwhile, the result of inferential statistic analysis through independent sample t-test shows that the value of to was 3.287, which was higher than the value of tcv at 1.99 (significance level 5%). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of scripted songs as a teaching strategy had significant effect toward the students’ English competence.
