The Analysis of Speech Acts Used by The English Teacher in Teaching and Learning Instruction at SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kategori-kategori speech acts yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris dalam kegiatan belajar-mengajar di SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris yang mengajar di kelas VIII.2 dan VIII.4 SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. Data dikumpulkan melalui proses observasi, rekaman, transkripsi, mencatat, mengkode, danwawancara. Kemudian, data yang berhasil dikumpulkan, dianalisis dengan model analisis Miles dan Huberman. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa terdapat 10 kategori speech acts yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris di SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja, yaitu: representative, directive, directive need statement, directive imperative, directive embedded imperative, directive permission, directive question, directive hint, commisive, expression, effective, verdictive, dan quotation.

This is a descriptive qualitative study which aimed to find out the speech acts used by the English teacher in teaching and learning process at SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. The subject of this study was the English teacher who taught in VIII.2 and VIII.4 at SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. The data were collected through some steps, namely: observing, recording, transcribing, field noting, coding, and interviewing. Then, the data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman theory. According to the results of this study, it is found that there are 10 categories of speech acts used by the English teacher at SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja, namely: representative, directive, directive need statement, directive imperative, directive embedded imperative, directive permission, directive question, directive hint, commisive, expression, effective, verdictive, and quotation.
