IMPROVING WRITING COMPETENCY OF CLASS VIIB STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 NEGARA THROUGH COLLABORATIVE WRITING COMBINED WITH MEDIA (ANIME POP-UP BOOK) IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/ 2014

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kecakapan menulis siswa melalui penerapan teknik Collaborative Writing dikombinasikan dengan Media (Anime Pop-Up Book). Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIIB SMP Negeri 1 Negara di tahun akademik 2013/ 2014. Subyek terdiri dari 35 siswa; 26 perempuan dan 9 laki-laki. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan observasi awal yang menunjukkan bahwa siswa sering memiliki masalah dalam menulis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Beberapa instrumen digunakan dalam proses pengumpulan data, yaitu: tes, catatan harian peneliti, dan kuisioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada pre-test adalah 67,68, kemuadian mengalami peningkatan menjadi 72,86 pada posy-test 1, dan 85,00 pada post-test 2. Hasil test juga sejalan dengan peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam keempat sub-skills dalam menulis, yaitu; isi (content), organisasi (organization), perbendaharaan kata (vocabulary), dan penggunaan bahasa (language use). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik Collaborative Writing dikombinasikan dengan Media (Anime Pop-Up Book) dapat meningkatkan kecakapan menulis siswa.

This study aimed at improving the students’ writing competency through the implementation of Collaborative Writing technique combined with Media (Anime Pop-up Book). The subjects of the study were the students of class VIIB of SMP Negeri 1 Negara in the academic year 2013/2014. The class consisted of 35 students; 26 females and 9 males. This study was carried out based on the preliminary observation which indicated that students often faced difficulties in their writing. The study was designed in a form of classroom action research, comprising two cycles. Instruments used to collect the data were: test, researcher’s diary, and questionnaire. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the data showed that the mean score of students in pre-test was 67.68 in which it improved to 72.86 in post-test 1 and 85.00 in post-test 2. It was also in line with the students’ improvement in the four sub-skills of writing; content, organization, vocabulary, and language use. Based on the result of the study, it could be concluded that the application of Collaborative Writing technique combined with Media (Anime Pop-up Book) could improve the students’ writing competency.
