INNOVATIVE COOPERATIVE TASK FOR ACCELERATING VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SECOND GRADERS OF NBBS

Bahasa Inggris dianggap sebagai bahasa asing di Indonesia dan mulai diperkenalkan sejak sekolah dasar. Namun, prestasi Bahasa Inggris siswa masih sangat rendah dan ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya pengetahuan kosakata yang dimiliki siswa. Banyak guru Bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar masih menghadapi masalah tentang bagaimana mengajar Bahasa Inggris yang inovatif dalam rangka meningkatkan prestasi kosakata siswa. Salah satu teknik untuk meningkatkan kosa kata siswa adalah dengan menggunakan teknik Cooperative Task yang inovatif yang dilakukan untuk mempercepat pencapaian kosakata siswa. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang pelaksanaan Cooperative Task yang inovatif dalam mempercepat pencapaian kosakata siswa kelas dua di North Bali Bilingual School. Ada beberapa jenis Cooperative Task yang dilaksanakan di sekolah ini, dan ditemukan bahwa pelaksanaan Cooperative Task di North Bali Bilingual School (NBBS) sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan prestasi kosakata siswa. Tidak hanya itu, antusias siswa dan motivasi siswa sangat mendukung dalam pelaksanaan teknik ini, sehingga mereka sangat tertarik untuk belajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah. Penelitian ini merupakan hasil penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang dilakukan terhadap siswa kelas dua di North Bali Bilingual School (NBBS). Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua, para guru, dan kepala sekolah dari North Bali Bilingual School (NBBS). Penelitian ini akan dikumpulkan dengan dua metode,yaitu metode observasi dan metode wawancara.Kata Kunci : Innovative cooperative tasks, Vocabulary achievement
English is considered as a foreign language in Indonesia and started to be introduced since elementary school. However, students’ English achievement was still very low and this was assumed to be caused by lack of vocabulary knowledge of the students. Many English teachers in elementary school still faced problem on how to teach English innovatively in order to improve student’s vocabulary achievement. One of the techniques used was innovative cooperative tasks which were conducted for accelerating the student’ vocabulary achievement. This study is therefore, intended to describe about the implementation of innovative cooperative task for accelerating vocabulary achievement for the second grade students of North Bali Bilingual School (NBBS). The cooperative tasks were assigned of several kinds and all were found very effectively improved the students’ vocabulary achievement. Not only that, the students’ enthusiasm and motivations were clearly boosted and they were highly interested to study English in the school. The paper was the result of qualitative descriptive research which was conducted toward the second grade students in North Bali Bilingual School. The subject of this research was the second grade students, the teachers and the principal of North Bali Bilingual School (NBBS). This study was collected by two methods, such as observation method and interview method.
