Developing Supplementary English Material for Above Average Students of the Eighth Grade at SMP N 7 Denpasar to Support the Implementation of 2013 Curriculum

Penelitian dan Pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses dalam mengembangkan dan mengetahui kualitas dari materi tambahan bahasa Inggris untuk siswa berkemampuan di atas rata-rata kelas delapan di SMP N 7 Denpasar untuk mendukung implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris dan siswa berkemampuan di atas rata-rata kelas VIII di SMP N 7 Denpasar. Model penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain Penelitian dan Pengembangan diadaptasi dari Sugiyono (2008) yang diterapkan hanya sampai tahap ketujuh. Dengan itu ditemukan bahwa ada tujuh unit yang perlu dikembangkan pada materi tambahan yang mengikuti silabus Kurikulum 2013, kriteria materi pembelajaran yang baik dari Tomlinson (1998), dan differentiated instruction. Materi yang dikembangkan menyisipkan nilai karakter dan budaya lokal. Konten di materi tambahan lebih bervariasi dalam hal latihan soal. Validasi dilaksanakan melalui uji ahli dengan hasil validitas konten 1.00 yang mengindikasikan bahwa produk memiliki validitas sangat tinggi. Uji coba produk diadakan untuk mengetahui kualitas produk melalui angket guru yang menunjukkan bahwa materi memenuhi kriteria yang sangat baik (229≥225). Serta, hasil angket siswa menunjukkan bahwa siswa memberi balikan positive terhadap produk.Kata Kunci : differentiated instruction, materi tambahan, siswa berkemampuan di atas rata-rata
This Research and Development aimed at describing the process of developing and measuring the quality of supplementary English material for above average students of the eighth grade at SMP N 7 Denpasar to support the implementation of 2013 Curriculum. The subjects of this study were the English teacher and above average students of the eighth grade at SMP N 7 Denpasar, and the object of this study was supplementary English material. The research designed employed in this study was model of Research and Development adapted from Sugiyono (2008) which conducted until the seventh step. It was found that there were seven units that needed to be developed in supplementary material following syllabus of 2013 Curriculum, criteria of good learning material (Tomlinson,1998), and differentiated instruction. The material developed inserted character values and local content. The content in supplementary material should be more challenging and varied in term of exercises. The validation was done through expert judgment with Content Validity was 1.00 which indicated it has very high validity. Product try-out was conducted to know the quality of the product through teacher questionnaire which showed excellent material (229≥225). And, the result of student questionnaire showed that the students gave positive feedback toward the product.
