THE EFFECT OF ADAPTED MONOPOLY BOARD GAME TO THE 5TH GRADE STUDENTS' ENGLISH LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOL IN BANJAR, ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek yang signifikan pada penggunaan monopoly board game sebagai media pembelajaran terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas lima. Penelitian experimen ini mengimplementasikan desain penelitian post-test only control group. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas lima SD di Banjar, Kabupaten Buleleng. Sample penelitian ini adalah 26 siswa kelas lima di SDN 1 Banjar dan 26 siswa kelas lima di SDN 9 Banjar yang ditentukan dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok siswa di kelas eksperimen mampu menunjukkan prestasi belajar yang lebih baik daripada kelompok siswa kelas control. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari hasil t-test dimana nilai tobs adalah 5,819, sedangkan nilai tcv adalah 2,008 (tobs > tcv). Hal ini berarti bahwa penggunaan monopoly board game mampu memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan pada prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas lima SD.

This research was purposed to investigate whether or not there was a significant effect on the use of adapted monopoly board game as a learning media towards the fifth grade students’ English learning achievement. This experimental research implemented post-test only control group design. The population of this research was all the fifth grade students of primary school in Banjar, Buleleng Regency. The samples of this study were 26 students of fifth graders in SDN 1 Banjar and 26 students of fifth graders in SDN 9 Banjar, administered using cluster random sampling technique. The result showed that the group of students in experimental group could perform better achievement rather than the group of students in the control group. It could be proven from result of the t-test in which the tobs was 5.819, meanwhile the tcv was 2.008 (tobs > tcv). It means that the use of monopoly board game gives significant effect to the fifth grade primary school students’ English learning achievement.
