The Effect of Using Kim's Board Game towards the 4th Grade Students' English Learning Achievement of Elementary School in Sangsit, Buleleng Regency in Academic Year 2015/2016

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan Kim's board game terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 4 SD di Sangsit, Kabupaten Buleleng, tahun pelajaran 2015/2016. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas 4 SD di Sangsit, Kabupaten Buleleng tahun pelajaran 2015/2016, di mana terdapat sembilan kelas dari delapan sekolah dasar yang terdiri dari 203 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan model post-test only control group design dan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling untuk menentukan sampel. SDN 8 Sangsit, melalui lotre ditetapkan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan diajarkan menggunakan Kim’s board game, sedangkan SDN 4 Sangsit, melalui lotre ditetapkan sebagai kelompok kontrol dan diajarkan tanpa menggunakan media Kim’s board game. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa siswa di kelompok eksperimen memperoleh prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan siswa di kelompok kontrol. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh oleh siswa dari kedua kelompok: kelompok eksperimen yaitu 80, sedangkan kelompok kontrol yaitu 74. Hasil dari uji t juga membuktikan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan Kim’s board game terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa, di mana nilai t yang diperoleh yaitu 3,293, lebih besar dibandingkan nilai t pada tabel yaitu 2,008559 (α = 0,05). Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan bahwa belajar Bahasa Inggris menggunakan media Kim’s board game memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 4 SD di Sangsit, Kabupaten Buleleng, tahun ajaran 2015/2016.Kata Kunci : prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris, Kim’s board game, media pengajaran
Abstract This research aimed at finding the effect of using Kim’s board game toward the fourth grade students’ English learning achievement of elementary school in Sangsit, Buleleng Regency in academic year 2015/2016. The population of this research was all the fourth grade students in nine classes from eight schools in Sangsit, Buleleng, Bali, consisted of 203 students. The design of this research was post-test only control group design and used cluster random sampling technique to determine the sample. SDN 8 Sangsit was determined by lottery as the experimental group and treated by using Kim’s board game, while SDN 4 Sangsit was determined by lottery as the control group and treated without using Kim’s board game. The result of data analysis showed that the experimental group students achieved a higher English learning achievement than the control group. It was proven by the mean score obtained by both groups: the experimental group was 80 while the control group was 74. The result of t-test also proved that there was a significant effect of using Kim’s board game toward the students’ English learning achievement, in which the tobs was 3.293. It was higher than the tcv at 2.008559 (α = 0.05). Thus, it can be stated that learning English by using Kim’s board game gives a significant effect toward the fourth grade students’ English learning achievement of elementary school in Sangsit, Buleleng Regency in academic year 2015/2016.
