AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL ERRORS MADE BY THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP AYODHYA PURA SELAT IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS, IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis kesalahan secara tata bahasa yang dibuat oleh siswa-siswa kelas 8 SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat dalan menulis teks deskriptif (2) menemukan dan mendeskripsikan alas an kenapa siswa-siswa kelas 8 SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat membuat kesalahan dalam menulis teks deskrptif. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Alat untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes menulis. Data yang telah didapat kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif menggunakan teori error analysis dari Selinker. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) total kesalahan yang dibuat oleh siswa-siswa kelas 8 SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat adalah 196 kesalahan. Kesalahan yang ditemukan pada penelitian ini adalah misformation dengan 122 kesalahan (62.2%), omission dengan 46 kesalahan (23.4%), addition dengan 16 kesalahan (8.1%) dan misordering dengan 12 kesalahan (6.1%). Misformation adalah jenis kesalahan yang paling banyak ditemukan pada penelitian ini. This research aimed at (1) describing the types of grammatical errors made by the eighth grade students of SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat in writing descriptive texts and (2) finding out and describing the reasons why the eighth grade students of SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat made errors in writing descriptive texts. This research used descriptive qualitative study. The tool of collecting data was written tasks. The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively by using Selinker’s theory of error analysis. The result of this study showed that: (1) the total of errors made by the eighth grade students of SMP Ayodhya Pura Selat was 196 errors. The errors found in this study were misformation with 122 errors (62.2 %), omission with 46 errors (23.4 %), addition with 16 errors (8.1 %) and misordering with 12 errors (6.1 %). Misformation was the most frequent error in this study. (2) The sources of their errors were carelessness of the students, first language interference and translation.
