Abstract

The low level of students' reading comprehension and literacy is caused by the suboptimal use of innovative learning media. This study aims to analyze the need for developing a digital comic based on local wisdom as a learning medium to enhance elementary school students' comprehension and reading interest. This research is part of the needs analysis stage in a research and development (R&D) process using the Design Thinking model. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to teachers and students, then analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistical tests. The findings indicate that 63.6% of teachers use learning media only at certain times, while 40.6% of students face difficulties in understanding Indonesian language materials, particularly adjectives, compound words, and antonyms. Additionally, 71.2% of students expressed a high interest in reading when using digital comic media. The conclusion of this study is that developing digital comics based on local wisdom is essential to improve students' comprehension and motivation in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
